Retro Picnic Good Life Collab +Freebie

While I do not have an official blog train offering I do have a mini kit for the Good Life Collab for you today!

You can download the mini below.

My Dad, being born in the 1940’s, said he did not like styles from that era. Funny thing is I was born in the 70’s and do not like styles from that era…maybe its a thing? Maybe it’s just us. But I have always had a soft spot for the 40’s and that’s the flavor I gave this collab contribution – Retro Picnic! Perfect for those June luncheons at the park or on the lawn.

I love, love, love this kit (& the bundle at PS)! I adore 40s fashions so I’m extra thrilled about this.

My parents turned 20 in 1940 & have grew up hearing stories about the roaring twenties (neither of them from families that roared), the great depression, WWII, & more. My mom, whose family was badly hit by the depression, kept all of her clothes from those year so I rebelled against the ghastly fashions of the 70s by wearing her 40s dresses all through high school. I don’t think I have any photos of me in the clothes (& have no idea where they went) but oh, how I loved making them look like, & work for, me.

As much as I love the 50s sillhouette, because tightish bodices & fuller skirt work for my figure, the 40s dress are my favorite. The simplicity & elegance of their lines, forced by rationing, are divine.

All of which is a very long way of saying thank you so much for both this freebie & the bundle & for the 40s setting!! Feel free to do more kits set int he 40s (& other mid-century decades). ;-D

Thank you so much! I really enjoyed reading your comment Sarah! And it’s nice to know I am not the only one! That’s so neat you were wearing the 40’s dresses in the 70’s – bet you looked like one classy lady! 🙂 I had some vintage skirts from the 40s I had found at the goodwill that were my favorites. I’m just sad I outgrew them lol. I too grew up hearing about those things, but from my 90 yr old great grandmother. We chatted a lot. Learned all about flour sack dresses from her as well as the rationing of the war days. And I’m so glad you enjoyed the bundle & the freebie! ♥

Jessica, this is so pretty! Love the reds (I think of the picking cherries from my grandpa’s tree when I was a young girl … & of strawberries, which are my favorite!) Love the ladies in their “retro” dresses!! Thanks for sharing the mini! 🙂

Oooh I would have loved to have grown up picking cherries! Altho being from the Winter Strawberry Capital of the world I’ve done my fair share of picking strawberries. 🙂 Thanks so much for your comment Pam & for sharing such a great memory! ♥ You just might have inspired me to do a layout about my own strawberry picking days 😉 hehe
